Reserve Component

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

Students interested in commissioning in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) or National Guard (ARNG) may compete for a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship.  These scholarships range in length from 1.5 years up to 4 years. Students who receive a GRFD scholarship must simultaneously enlist in a reserve component and be contracted in the Army ROTC for the duration of their scholarship.  Cadets may choose to be part of the SMP as early as their sophomore year as a non-scholarship Cadet. Scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees, a book allowance and a monthly stipend. These Cadets also receive weekend drill and annual training pay.

SMP scholarship Cadets cannot use Chapter 1606 or Chapter 1607 Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits while receiving a Dedicated GRFD scholarship and they cannot revoke Dedicated GRFD scholarship nor request active duty immediately after college.
